I have done extensive research on this issue, and this article is a collection of all the solutions you will find on the web. So this should save you some time in your search for an answer. Even though these workarounds won't directly solve your problem, there are some great tricks to learn here to help save you time. The ultimate goal of using a keyboard shortcut is to save time. Especially for repetitive tasks when you need to quickly apply the same colors over and over again. None of the workaround methods really accomplish this, so I created an Excel add-in that will allow you to customize your own shortcuts.
The add-in is explained in 5 below with a link to the download page. This will open the menu so you can view the color palette, but you have to take additional steps to select and apply the color. Here is a quick guide:. This will help make the keyboard shortcut to access them shorter. Once the menu is open you still have to use the arrow keys to select your color.
It's basically the same three step process as above. The F4 key is a great keyboard shortcut to know and can save you time. The F4 key will repeat the last action you've taken in Excel.
For example, let's say you just used the Fill Color menu to change a cell to have a blue background. When you select another cell and press the F4 key, the cell's fill color will be changed to blue.
The F4 key just repeats the last action you took. This applies to many different types of actions, not just font and fill colors.
The F4 key can be a real time saver any time you are doing a repetitive task. Thanks for sharing Dominykas! Similar to the F4 method mentioned above, you can quickly copy the colored cell and apply the formatting only to other cells.
This makes it very fast to copy the cell that contains the color and then only paste the formatting of that cell. The values or formulas in the copied cell will NOT be pasted. Only the formatting is pasted. The four solutions listed above are the best workarounds that I've found, and hopefully they will help you learn some new Excel skills if nothing else. But they do not directly solve the problem, which is to have a fast way to apply a font or fill colors with one single keyboard shortcut.

Have you ever wanted to fill an entire row or column with a series of values? Just type in a couple of numbers in sequence… 1 2 3 works pretty well. You could also put them across a row instead of down a column. Then move your mouse over the dot in the corner until the pointer changes, then just drag it downward or if you are filling a row instead, you can drag it to the right.

In this article, I will show you a couple of different ways to filter by color in Google Sheets.
Yes, in fact, there are at least a couple of different ways to accomplish to filter by color in Sheets. Sheets has a powerful conditional formatting tool, but it is based on the data stored in the cells, not on the attributes of the cell such as color.

The other approach uses Sheets add-ons; there are a couple of good ones that contain this functionality. This approach is for the more technical oriented user or Google Apps power user as it uses Google App Script with the Google Script Editor to create a function that you can call from Google Sheets.
In this example scenario, you have a Sheet that has all the outstanding tickets a way of tracking customer support issuescolor-coded by priority: low, medium, high, and urgent.
Sorting by color might be useful in this scenario and you can apply the idea to any situation where you might want to sort a sheet by color.

Now that you have the script ready to go, you can call the function in the script from the Sheet. Then you can simply copy the function to each of the other cells in that column. This would return all rows where the priority was urgent orange. The benefit of this add-on is that it can sort by cell color or by text color, but the downside is that you cannot change the order or customize it.

However, you can easily copy formatting from one section of your document to another by following these steps and shortcuts:. To use this tool, select the text that's formatted in the way that you want to copy. The formatting from the original text will be copied to the selected text.
To change the formatting in multiple places within your document, double-click the paint roller icon. You'll enter a mode that lets you highlight multiple text selections, and apply the same formatting to each selection. I have exactly the same issue as you I am a researcher and use red, blue, green and black when making notes on different aspects of research. These days, when making notes, I just use Microsoft on work PC. The best workaround I have found is to change the 'Default Styles' of each of the Syle dropdown box - I made 'Heading 1' normal sized text but red, Heading 2 is blue and so on.
AutoHotkey free, open-source will automatically move the mouse, and click wherever you want. But for other stuff like changing the font size I was not able to use tampermonkey. It's easy to do it using autohotkey.
The code below will rotate the font color just by moving the mouse, getting the pixel color or clicking on stuff: if it's black it will set it to dark blue, if it's dark blue, it'll set it to light blue, if it's light blue set it to red, else it'll set it to black. Since the code works with the "mouse position" which changes according to the size of your screen to make it work for you, you simply need to replace the mouse position in the code below.
To do that you will need the "windows spy tool" you will get it when you will install AutoHotkey. Then just place your mouse where you need to get the mouse position and copy the 2 numbers given after "relative"in the screenshot.
Switching to fullscreen might take more time if your CPU is slower. If this is the case just increase the waiting time add in the code a sleep after the f11 line.
